Give it to me straight...is Molly a dog name?

So far this is the only name DH and I both like. However, as I have been mentioning it I have heard from three lovely people (my mother included) that it is a "dog's name." Their opinions don't deter me at all, I am just wondering if we do use Molly if it will be a point of contention for her to always hear "oh, that's my dog's name" or whatever.....FWIW I think Molly is a lovely name!

I've known three dogs named Molly, but my boss is also named Molly. It could go both ways for me. I like it. Keep the same spelling, too.

I love this name too. Dh said to me, "It's a dog name." My aunt and uncle have a dog named Molly. I think it's both. I think she will hear, "Oh, I have a dog named Molly" often because it is a very popular dog name. It's rated the #2 most popular girl dog name after Maggie. It's still a really cute girl name though!

I don't think animals should be given people names, so to me it's a girl's name... and it's cute.

I am a vet, so I am around animals all day.  I know several dogs named Molly.  However, when I hear the name Molly I don't think of a dog.  I think it is a very cute little girls name!

I don't know that I've ever known of a dog named Molly.  In the same regard, we are talking about naming a girl Riley, which I think immediately of a dog, so I guess w/e if you like the name then go for it

I LOVE the name Molly. It was one of my top name choices until we found out we were having a boy. I've known a few Molly's in real life. Great name!

I adore that name and it was my #1 choice for a girl, but DH nixed it for exactly this reason.  There ARE a lot of dogs named Molly, but is is a girl's name.  But you will run into a lot of dogs with that name, or people who say "oh, that's my dog's name" etc.  If that bothers you, I'd choose another name.

I know people with a dog named Molly, but it's certainly not the first thing I think of.  It's a girl's name!

I actually have a dog named Molly but I still think of it more as a girl's name.

(Actually all the dogs in my family have people names)

I love the name Molly. It was on the top of my list if one of these babies were a girl. Truth be told, my family said it was a dogs name also (including my mom) but I disagree/ don't really care.

My DD is named Molly, so I obviously love it.  It's sweet & fits her to a T.  In her 2+ years of life we have only gotten the "my dog's name is Molly" thing once.  And she said that she named her dog Molly because she loved the name...not because it was a dog's name.

If you like it, go for it.  Nobody's going to think of a dog when they see your cute little girl!

I'm sure Molly Ringwald doesn't think it is a dogs name!  We did have a dog named Moly, but I don't automatically think of dogs when I hear it.  I think you will be fine!
