Help!!...leaking fluid? possible TMI

Ok so I went to get in the shower earlier and there was a huge wet spot in my underware. I had a pantiliner on and everything, but still, it was a big spot! It wasn't like dripping wet or anything, but it was pretty damp. I got in the shower and then now I'm freaking out cause I kinda feel like maybe I'm dripping. The dr said if I was leaking fluid eventually it would gush and I would know, but still... for those of you who's had this, how much fluid were you really losing, were you having contractions too, and do you think I should call? I don't wanna be freaking out and them tell me to come in and they test me for fluid and it's nothing...

  • Lie down for half an hour and stand up. If you get a little gush or a big trickle, then it's probably your water. If not, it's probably just nothing.
  • Call the doc! And ditto on trying to lie down and see what happens. GL!

  • it won't necessarily gush out at first. depends on baby's position. if they've dropped and their head is well engaged it might just trickle a bit at first. it only really gushes if there's a lot of fluid in front of their head, then when that's out the baby's head will act like a cork and it will only dribble steadily after that. so it could be amniotic fluid, or it could just be typical third tri discharge that tends to get more watery towards the end...

maybe try lying down? that could cause a gush...then you'd know i suppose?

  • Please call your doctor. I thought I was leaking and went in to L&D and later found out that I have a bacterial infection that is leeching fluid causing me to leak. Had I not called and not gone in, I would have never known and would have passed the infection to my baby when I delivered. Please call.

    ditto.

  • It never hurts to call if you are unsure. I have been having liquid discharge for a while now too. It could be nothing.....
