I'm thinking about donating some of my frozen stash to the Mother's Milk Bank in Austin. I'm running out of freezer space and don't know what else to do. The initial donation is 150 oz, and I estimate that I probably have well over 230 oz frozen. Right now, Jacob drinks about 30 oz per day. And I pump 6 times a day and get about 40 to 50 oz per day, so I'm pumping way more than he's eating right now. We've never had to dip into the frozen stash and really I don't forsee us going through it anytime soon even with putting Jacob into daycare in 2 months. I would just prefer to help someone than to have the milk go to waste in my freezer. So, WWYD? Please give me your opinions - all are welcome. TIA!
Re: WWYD: Donating to a Milk Bank??
I think it's a great idea - but I think you have to get qualified first? I looked into it but I didn't have that much extra to donate.
I think you should definitely do it!
You totally should! I looked into it and my nearest one was Boston. I agree, at least check and make sure you meet their criteria, they are pretty strict. And I'm so jealous you get so much pumping during the day!
Just think of a little preemie out there who will be so much happier on your milk than trying to digest formula with a little undeveloped belly!
