MIL and DS name issue

Hi!

Ok, so here's the short version...We are adopting a child that we have had since birth and decided to change his name (about a month after we got him).  We never called him by his birth name, we chose one for him and started calling him that.

Recently my MIL has been voicing her opinion about the name we chose.  It's not traditional (none of our children's names are), but she keeps bringing this up.  She likes his birth name and wants to call him something referring to that, or some kind of nickname, but he doesn't answer to it.  She is really starting to annoy me about this and I'm not sure if I should say something to her or let DH handle it?  And how to handle it?  I feel like she needs to just deal.  That she had her chance to name her children, and these are my children, so too bad.  Help ladies, wwyd?

  • I would have your DH talk to her.  He can also point out that it will be confusing to him.  You have been calling him by the name you chose for months.  And like you pointed out, he's your child, you can name him what you want and she just has to deal with it!

Yeah she totally needs to get over herself.  I would definitely have your DH do it but make sure he makes it clear that you guys are not okay with her calling your DS by a different name.
