I feel like a prisioner in my house b/c Jack hates the carseat and has a meltdown when he rides in it. I try to put him in while he's sleeping but when he wakes up, he's hysterical. I even stop and feed him but when I put him back in he cries. I try to put him in awake and he cries hysterically most of the time if not the entire time. It is so stressful that I rarely go anywhere. Is this normal? Will he just grow out of it? Any tips?
He does better when I am back there with him. He calms down faster.
Re: Anyone's LO HATE the carseat?
DS has always hated his carseat. He arches his back and screams when we try to put him in. We have to hold him down with one arm, and buckle him with the other.
I wish I could say he outgrew it, but he still screams in the car (makes the 14 hour trip to see my family so fun). We did turn him FF about a month ago (no flames please) and it has helped tremendously. He enjoys being able to see us and DD.

Ethan totally hates the carseat. If I don't plan it perfectly (i.e. wait till he has just woken up from a nap, nurse for 15 minutes and rush out the door) than he screams until we arrive at our destination.
Now that he's tall enough to see out the window (and now that he's more interested in the things around him) he can handle the car rides that are under 30 minutes when I rush out of the house. The car rides home from where we were... not so fun. Usually I can only get in one way with him not screaming.
Not sure if he'll out grow it or not. We're currently looking for toys or things to hang from the back seat to keep him entertained. My MIL said that my BIL had a toy that he put at his son's feet and his son could kick it to make noises and make it light up... I haven't been able to find it but need to start looking
Good luck!
Mine don't love it. They will tolerate short rides but get impatient very quickly unless they are REALLY tired. They are also better when we are moving, but if there is a lot of stop and go (which of course there almost always is in Los Angeles!) they get really fussy. We just try to get where we need to go as quickly as possible (sorry I am not much help!)
One thing that actually HAS helped (this might sound crazy but it does work sometimes) is, as we are backing out of the driveway, before they get fussy, I tell them exactly where we are going and what we will do when we get there. I swear they are much less fussy when I do that.
