Personal experience with Charter Schools?

Our church school is in the process of looking into becoming a charter school. I am seriously thinking about becoming their special education representitive during the charter process. I am doing a lot of research, but would love to hear first hand experiences. Thank you. This has got to be something I 100% believe in to go back to work.

Re: Personal experience with Charter Schools?

  • I really depends on the area.  I am in MI and taught in one for 5 years and it was wful..very low income, terrible parent support, 7 principals in 5 years, students undisciplined, no money for teachers, low pay, etc.  My cousin sends her kids to one in a different area and has had a much better experience..all depends onthe area and management company in charge
  • I guess I should add thats why I quit to stay home!!

  • A friend of mine teaches special ed. at a local charter school.  She says that it is aweful.  It seems that it really depends on the area and the leadership of the particular school.  Her school has many problems.

I would think a faith based school might be different, verses a management company.  Good luck!
