CD Moms - Contour diapers and inserts

I've been using pre-folds and covers from my diaper service and I really like them - no issues with leaks or anything.  I'm thinking of cutting the diaper service and just washing my own diapers but wanted to get some opinions...

Does anyone use contour diapers?  How well do they work?

I usually double diaper Michael at night but its really, really bulky and am thinking of just using inserts.  How well do they work overnight?

I haven't heard good things about contours.  You can't fold up the edges to hold poop in with them like you can with prefolds.  It seems like there are a lot of blowouts with them because of that.  Fitteds would probably be a better bet for you because they have the gussets on the legs.  jilliansdrawers.com has a gently used section where you can get Thirsties Fab Fitteds for a really good price.  We use those during the day and really like them.  They are really trim and soft.  The only down side is that they are a sized diaper, so you have to reorder them every once in a while.  We're still using the size smalls with Allie that we bought when she was born.

We use pocket diapers, so we use inserts all the time.  I'm using microfiber now (inside the pocket because it shouldn't be up against the skin) and am having some stink issues with it.  We have to double them up for night time now because we were having leaks and it seems to be doing the trick.  I would like to get some hemp inserts from etsy's ArtsyFartsyFooFoo (a lady from the Eco-Friendly Family board).  They get rave reviews and are, apparently, really, really absorbant without being bulky.

i second everything Berty said.  If you like pfs and they work for you, stick with those!  Def the least $$ option... i didn't like them - way too mnay poosplosions.  i may try them again when poo becomes solid. 

i use Thirsties Fab Fitteds and covers and mostly BG OS pockets.  i have some minor stink issues with the microfiber inserts also - striping them every 2 months solves the problem.  at night i stuff the BG with a pf and a hemp insert (i bought my hemp from the thirsties outlet); kinda bulky but no leaks. Charlie still wears size small thristies.

for laundering, i highly rec Crunchy Clean (WAHM EFF nestie sells it on etsy and hyena cart).  This stuff works!  i do a cold/cold with CC, followed by hot/cold extra rinse with CC and a scoop of OxyBaby.  most stains come out and if they don't i simply dry them in the sunshine. VOILA no stains!

So far I am LOVING my prefolds and I wash them myself in Crunchy Clean. greenmountaindiapers.com is selling seconds for amlost half price right now!!! SO worth it. The unbleached are supposed to be the most absorbant. I also have some kissaluv contours that I'm going to try soon. They may not have enough to roll in the sides like a PF, but the sherpa cotton texture I think will make up for that. DD doesn't have very big poops, but i still can't use PFs overnight.
