Babies on the Brain

what to expect

Has anyone read this book before getting pg or even during pg. Is it helpful or is it just another book that will scare the crap out of you and make you read into things too much?

Re: what to expect

  • A little of both.  While informative it does tend to  (IMHO) focus a lot more on the "what can, will go wrong".  I like Your Pregnancy Week by Week.

Now, the WTE the first year?  Has been a life saver.

I have read it (more than once).  We give it to our pregnant patients.  I think it is helpful and warns you about parts you might want to skip.
  • Thusa!  How is the beading going? LOL, oh as far as the book, it was informative but I loved girlfriends guide.

I've read the Girlfriend's Guide too, and it was a good read.  I haven't read the book you are talking about yet, though.

  • I am great!  And yeah beading is not as easy as it looks, to begin with but it does get easier.  Before you know it you will be speeding through!  Oh ::looks for DH:: after talking to you I spent SOOO much money on more beads. LMAO, DH still hasn't busted me on it, wait till I get that package. LOL.  Make sure you take pics of your bracelet so i can see Smile

    Ditto this. I LOVE PWBW.?

  • I actually really liked it, even though I expected to not like it after everything I had heard about it being "alarmist". I ended up liking it much better than Your Pregnancy Week by Week. I felt like that book just didn't tell me enough.

Honestly, a lot of girls on here HATE that book but I thought it was informtative.  It does focus on what can go wrong, but you kind of have to take those sections with a grain of salt.

I am also reading WTE the first year and I love it so far.

BTW - If you are a Costco member, they are selling both books together for $20 or something like that.

I have never even opened WTE.  My bible is the Week by Week book.

I read it when my SIL was preg b/c I was curious. It wasn't too bad and kind of helped me know what to expect if I wanted to get preg. I am going to read Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy which has good advice, but also sounds very funny. What to Expect took itself a little too seriously, so I think it's good to balance with a fun book.

I read Girlfriend's Guide and LOVED it.  I am reading Girlfriends Guide to the First Year also.
