Babies on the Brain

Please just tell me I am being crazy

I had a sharp pain (on a scale from 1-10, it was about a 6-7) on Sunday night in my lower right abdomen.  Since I was sure that I was not PG this cycle, I assumed it was weird cramps coming on before AF.

Well, I got my BFP yesterday, and now I am worried because I have still been having pains (only about a 2-3 now) on and off since Sunday in the same area.  I am only 14 DPO now and my doctor told me (after the m/c) to not come in for b/w next time I am PG until a week after I would have missed AF.

I am definitely not asking you girls to look into my ute and tell me if this is going to be a healthy pregnancy, but I am not sure if I am reading too much into it.  So, my questions are: Did any of you experience pain like this in early pregnancy that turned out to be nothing?  Do you think I should be concerned and call the doctor tomorrow even though she told me to wait?  Do you think I am just being crazy and a pain of 2-3 is nothing?

Re: Please just tell me I am being crazy

  • I had these phantom pains or cramping for about the first three - four weeks of the PG.  Are you spotting or bleeding at all?

  • Nope, no spotting or bleeding and I POAS again this morning and the line was beautifully dark.
  • I cramped quite a bit until I was about 5-6w along (I found out 8DPO, so it was early). I know it's easy for me to say, but try not to worry too much about it.?
  • I had really sharp pains but they were more like a 9 - it was just a cyst rupturing and had nothing to do with our m/c according to my doctor. Try not to worry about it!

  • I had really bad pains up til about 8-9 weeks.

  • I know it's tough, but if you aren't having any bleeding try not to stress about it.  Of course if the pain gets worse or it will ease your mind, by all means, call your Dr.
  • Thanks so much.  I was hoping that I was making too much of it, but the doctor and nurses asked me a million times before my m/c if I had sharp pains in one place so now when I do I was getting scared.  However, as Jess said, they are probably phantom caused by the doctors/nurses asking that question last time!
  • I've had sharp cramping really until this week.  If it's really localized, it might just be the corpum luteam (the cyst made by the ruptured follie at ovulation that produces progesterone and estrogen until the placenta is formed enough to take that over).  It can enlarge some after implantation to help continue hormone production.

If you are really, concerned, then call your doc and tell her what you are feeling.  She will either tell you to come on in or to wait a week.  But it might ease your mind.

This makes total sense.  I am definitely more at ease now just knowing that there could be a totally normal explanation with a good outcome.  I think I will wait until Monday or Tuesday to go in to my doctor unless the pain gets worse.  Thanks!

  • I cramped off and on up to my 5th week. I also had sharp (scale of 1-10 a 10) pain on my right ovary off an on. My OB told me that pain was due to a corpus luteum cyst, and to take it as a good sign. That cyst creates progesterone which protects the baby until the placenta forms.

     CONGRATS BTW!

  • Congrats!!!  That is so exciting that you got a BFP!
  • The pain is normal, and cruel, in my experience. No matter how many of us tell you we had it, it will worry you and it sucks. Your ute is basically saying, "wtf, biitch?", and it will continue for a while. It will be followed by Round Ligament Pain and then getting kicked in the cervix.
