Baby Names

I thought this was interesting

I was going through my old yearbooks and it was interesting to see how names change. There were no Sophias, no Avas, no Madisons, no Addisons, no Isabellas, 1 Madeline, and 2 Olivias. Also, the older names that are coming back like Audrey, Amelia, Lily/Lillian, Ruby, Eleanor, Margaret, etc... are absent in my yearbooks. One name that I did see over and over was Katherine/Kathryn. Rarely did I see Catherine. I saw a number of Katies. I didn't know people named their daughter just Katie.

Re: I thought this was interesting

  • I knew several Katies growing up that were just Katie.  I also knew a lot of Katherines, Heathers, and Kristens (spelled all different ways). My high school class also had several Amelias, Lauras, and Laurens.  As far as "older" names go, I'd have to look back at my yearbooks to remember lol.

    I can't tell you how many Katherines/Katies I know!?

  • Haha!  Okay, just went through my yearbook.  The first repeat I saw was Anna, then of course Katherine, but then Anke, Jens, and Reese started appearing a lot.  Jennifer and Hanna/Hannah made a few appearances.  Then we had about half a dozen Kendras.  Abigail and Kasey also had a few appearances.

But yeah, no Madisons, no Isabellas, no Madisons.  I just find it really funny that there were so many Ankes, Jens, and Reeses.  Especially since there were less than 300 kids in my school!

  • My sister is a just Katie. She's only 16, so apparently it's a lasting trend.
  • I know more just Katie/Caties than I do Katherine/Catherines, and there were several scattered throughout my yearbook. Also a lot of Lauren, Stephanie, Danielle, Anna, Jennifer and a lot of Jenny/Ginnys that are just Jenny, not Jennifer, Ashley, Kasey/Kacie/Casey/Cayce, Ben, Brandon, Brittany/Brittney, Haley/Hailey, Jared, Jessica, Justin, Megan, Rachel, Ryan, Sara... 80s babies.

that's why they're all coming back into style now. they needed a while to sound fresh in people's minds again.
