at what age would you let dc play outside by themselves? I see alot of kids in our development playing outside w/out parental supervision and wanted to get thoughts on what age it's ok.
Okay, not sure what a development is. Is it a subdivision? Apartment complex? Condos? I guess whatever it is it's not what it is called in WI or here in FL because I've never heard of it.
Either way though Carter won't be playing outside by himself until he's around 6 or so. Maybe then.
lol Kers, didn't realize development might be a regional term. Yeh, it's like a subdivision. I live in a group of singles homes, about 200 of them I'd say, suburban area.
This reminds me of a time when a friend from Maine visited my area in Philly and called saying he was lost in the "projects". When it wasn't the projects it was just that he never saw "row" homes, lol.
My neighbors' kids are 7, 10 and 13 and only the 13 year old is allowed to roam the neighborhood on foot/scooter/bike. The 7 and 10 year olds can play out in the yard but have to check with their Mom to go anywhere other than their yard. And honestly, I would still be watching them like a hawk. There was just a man arrested in our neighborhood for trying to pick up little girls....he was a subcontractor working in the neighborhood on new home construction. And don't even get me started on how people drive too fast throughout the neighborhood. That's a horrible accident waiting to happen! It'll be a long time before I let my kids go!
My SD is 10 and is not allowed out front by herself or with her cousin yet. My other SD is 14 and she's been allowed to walk around the neighborhood by herself for about a year.
When I say the neighborhood, I'm talking out our part of the subdivision. It is 1/2 mile circle and only has one entrance/exit so there's no through traffic.
I talked to my mom about how I used to ride around outside with my friends at 8, and the bus into downtown Denver at 13. She said I wouldn't be allowed to do those things at that age if it were now. I'm glad to know that she woud be as protective as we are.

Probably 6 or 7.

edited: I should clarify that I would let my kids play in the yard alone - not wander/play around in the neighborhood.?

DS is 7. He can ride his bike or scooter or whatever three houses down on either side.
