Parenting after a Loss

should i wake her to eat?

one of the things the LC suggested today was waking hadley during the night to eat.  i'm so mixed about this.  i don't care at all about disrupting my own sleep, but i do care about disrupting hers.  wouldn't she wake up to eat if she needed it?

i'm really just not sure what to do.  shoiuld i call the pedi?  wait another week and see if she's made any progress?  wwyd?

Re: should i wake her to eat?

  • I don't think i would at this stage in the game! She would wake up if she was hungry for sure.. and i feel like if you start waking a baby who is already STTN, you're just asking for trouble.

I wonder if waking up yourself and pumping at night might help up your supply a bit? it would totally suck tho. Will she take a bottle at all so you can supplement after a feeding using what you pump at night? (We have never been successful at supplementing after a feeding, she seems to always spit up the extra)

  • she only takes 3 oz in a bottle once a day (first feeding) and i then nurse her after that to top her off.  every time we've tried to increase the oz in the bottle she refuses it after 3 oz but will still nurse.  we've had no luck with a bottle any other time of day.  it totally sucks.  i just wish this was easier.
  • I would not wake her to eat.  If she is hungry, she will wake up.  Give it another week and then check in with your pedi if there is no gain.  Hang in there! You are doing everything right. :)

  • I wouldn't wake her, if she were younger I would say yes, but not now.  It would suck, but I would get up and pump at night to replace those feedings she isn't having anymore as the pp mentioned.  Did you notice your supply dip when she began sleeping longer at night or was it before that?  I feel your pain with the low supply.  I think my eping days are numbered :(
  • Yeah, NO. Never wake a sleeping baby unless your boobs are so full the hurt and you're  not in a place you can pump.

Just wake up for an hour and power pump. That's what I'm doing. Not that I'm seeing any difference. Damn stupid boobs
