Babies on the Brain

I love my weekly hospital emails

This week:

No need to shave
If you are in the habit of shaving your pubic hair, or near it, it is recommended that you give it a break at this point until after your baby is born. If a cesarean section is required, or any other procedure that might require hair removal, the removal should be done at that time according to the hospital's policies and procedures. Other hair removal techniques can traumatize the skin and lead to infections.

8 weeks of hair growth...That's scary. LOL.

Be careful what you say.  Once you get the big round belly, it becomes VERY difficult.

Hell, my fat ass has problems now.  Once you are about 36 weeks you will rethink this.

wth? Even your hair removal has to comply with the "hospital's policies and procedures"?

  • tecnically the email is right. Shaving can cause microabrasions that can open your skin to bacteria that can be made worse by surgery. Same idea as why you shouldn't shave IV sites. If you wanted to be on the safe side it would be better to just trim until after your baby is here.

  • And.....no. Sorry. Forget it. I have a birth book from 1972, and I am NOT recreating those pics, lol. Unless my midwife tells me this and gives me a REALLY good reason, FTS.

I agree with this. I only trim now so it shouldn't be a problem for me. I do shave certain areas with a trimmer but will probably forgo that. Also, rumor has it that the hair helps keep the area dry, decreasing the chance of yeast infections.
