Emma has been eating a ton over the last week. She is eating around 34-36 oz a day. The last couple nights she has even started getting up again for food at night. Is this a sign she might be ready for cereal? We have her 4 month appt. next week and will ask the pedi. Where do you go for info on feeding solids to your LO? I feel so clueless about it.
Re: Food/solids ?
don't mistake the 4 month wakeful/growth spurt for readiness for solids. A lot of babies go through a wakeful period and they will eat more when they are growing.
A lot of Pedis are still in the "old school" thought about solids and give the go ahead at 4 months old, but the WHO and the AAP now recommend that people wait until babies are 6 months old to start solids. And at that time, cereal really isn't needed as a first food. Basically rice cereal has very little nutrients/calories in it and it's benefit is not really to 'fill them up' but to give added vitamins (fortified) and to let them practice with something new - textures, taste, etc.
