Hosptial Bag ?

I know you ladies get this alot and I have a good idea what to put in my bag. But what I want to know is what you used in L&D and what you used in your PP rooms.

Re: Hosptial Bag ?

  • I had just one room for labor and pp but i would say pack little. pack shower stuff, a couple sports bras or nursing bras and extra socks. i wore the hospital gown so i didn't ruin my clothes and wore the same outfit home that i wore to the hospital. anything else in my bag didn't get used. GL! oh and pack your boppy, i forgot mine and regretted it.
  • I had a c section so no labor room but for PP I recommend chapstick, pjs you can nurse from (i.e. button down) if you are going to BF, little travel sized toiletries like deoderant, shampoo etc...

  • I agree with the pp.  Pack small.  I didn't use half the stuff I brought.  I wore the hospital gowns the entire time since it made it easy to BF.  I wore a different outfit home, but that was due to my c-section.  Bring plenty of warm socks and a few pillows.  I loved having my own pillows.  I used lots of hand lotion since I was washing my hands constantly.  And I'm not sure about your hospital, but my DH was very glad that I packed lots of snacks.  I couldn't eat them after the c-section, but he was happy not to have to leave the room to get food between meals.  He stayed in the hospital with me the entire time except to go home to shower and feed the cat.
  • Toiletries and the boppy are what I used most... Reading material, other entertainment went untouched. PP I wore the hospital gown mostly, with nursing bras and a tank. Didn't use the robe I brought.

The only thing I really used was my change of clothes to go home in, going home clothes for the baby and my camera which we didn't use until the baby was 3 days old :::hangs head in shame::: I wore the hospital gown and socks while I was there.?
  • - Camera

    - Boppy

    - Robe

    - Toiletries, chapstick especially.

I agree with pp, I didn't use half the stuff I packed.  I had a c/s, so I don't know about l&d.  PP, I used chapstick, shampoo, conditioner & lotion.  My cell, camera and DH brought his computer were well used also.

I wore the same clothes home that I arrived in.

DH could shower in my room, so he needed changes of clothes & toileries.  He also ended up going home and getting himself a blanket and pillow.

  • I was in one room the whole time. The only things I really used: socks, lots of socks. Slippers and a short robe to put over the hospital gown for when you are walking the halls. Chapstick. My favorite soap, shampoo, and lotion....that first shower was amazing and I'm glad I had my own stuff. I wore the hospital gown the whole time I was there because they do so much checking and because of the leaking. Also, I ended up with a c-section and any pants hurt. I wore a t-shirt and yoga pants home.
  • Here are my favorite things:

-thin bathrobe--mine was black so it wouldn't get ruined and it was really nice to have to throw on for visitors or in case you get chilly

-a towel from home for shower in hospital--the hospital towels are really thin, scratchy, and not absorbent

-pajamas--some people only wear hospital gowns, but I loved having a pair of cute pajamas to change into after my shower.  They were mainly black with little pink hearts over them.  They actually helped me to feel human again!

If you have long hair, make sure you bring lots of elastic hair bands.  I totally forgot to put my hair up during L&D and it was stuck in bandages, super tangled, and a nightmare to brush through after.  Good luck!

  • My labor went super quick so I didn't really use anything for labor.  I got to the hospital and was already 6cm so I got my epidural, slept for about an hour and a half, then started pushing.  I just used my rubber band for my hair and my pillows from home to sleep comfortably on for the little time I had to rest.

As far as my PP room, I didn't use any of my own clothes except a robe.  I didn't want to wear my own stuff b/c of the bleeding, I didn't want to ruin my own stuff.  I jsut wore the hospital gowns and my own socks, and it was fine.  I did use some slipper socks of mine with the grippy things on the bottom, those were nice to have.  I brought all of my own toiletry items too, and used those.  but we didn't pack a bunch of stuff and it was fine, the hospital had anything we needed.  I did bring my hair dryer, they didn't have those at the hospital.  I would say don't over pack.
