!!!!!!!!!!!! I killed the babies!!!!!!!!!!

There was a nest of baby bunnies in our back yard that I didn't know was there...well, I maybe kind of knew when I saw the momma digging under my dead bush....

I just went to pull the dead bush out to plant a new bush and along with the roots came tufts of bunny fur and at the bottom of the hole there are a bunch of baby bunnies curled up!!!!!!

I don't know what to do...I freaked out and ran to the front yard and started planting there.

My DH will be home in 30 minutes with the kids....I think I need to remove the evidence before they arrive...otherwise my kids will think I KILLLED the Easter Bunny!!!

WHAT do I do??????

Re: !!!!!!!!!!!! I killed the babies!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh no, that is horrible. Are they all dead? I don't see how pulling the bush killed them?
  • I don't know...they could be alive...I freaked out and ran.  But I'm sure if I move them....I NEED to move them, they won't live.

DH will be happy...he hates bunnies...but I'm feeling a bit sad and grossed out by this....

  • I don't understand why you need to move them if they are alive??

I would wait until DH gets home and make a plan together to either let them be (if they are alive) or have him bury them without the kids knowing.

  • I would call some place that preserves wildlife they should be able to tell you how to move them.
  • If they are alive you can call your local ASPCA and let them know. They have volunteers who are trained to take care of injured or abandoned wildlife.

  • The bunny fur is prob. from the momma - they use that to help make the nest.  And the bunnies might just be sleeping.  Gently put the dead bush back without smushing them, as best you can, and leave it alone for a few days.  Momma will either move them or they'll be ready to go out on their own within a week or two.

ditto this.  my dh was mowing and scared some baby bunnies out of their hole.  they were so scared, they just sat there on the lawn...waiting on their mama i suppose.  the bunnies then moved.
