well... he did poop early yesterday but it was really hard - not like his usual poopies and he is straining today to poop and can't even eat - it's like he's in pain. ?it's weird. ?poor baby ?

My pedi reccomended the warm bath and then to "take her temp" rectally. ?Apparently just the thermometer can loosen their little muscles and make them stop clenching. ?A little bit of apple juice mixed with water also worked.

DS has been on rice cereal to thicken his bottles since one month old. Pedi told me to put one teaspoon of Karo Syrup in a bottle to keep things going, and I swear by it!!! DS is now regular and happy!!!
I would call your doc and see what they rec...but here is what ours told us:
Our nurse said 1 teaspoon of sugar mixed with 4 oz of water. Get the water hot enough to melt the sugar then let it sit until it's cool enough to give to him. Give him 1-2 oz. in the morning and 1-2 oz. in the evening. That should help soften the stools.
Jax also has issues with only going poop every 3-4 days right now (use to be every other day) so he also has us giving him 1/4 teaspoon of Metamucil in his morning bottle. The doc said the fiber should get him going more...it worked the first day but it seems that we are back to every 3 days now? At least it's not hard poop anymore though...Jax was miserable trying to get it out...he even started bleeding once from it.
I just got back from the pedi for his 2 month visit and mentioned constipation to the doc. She suggested 1/2 to 1 oz of prune juice mixed with the same amount of water given once a day.
Re: What can I use for baby constipation?
Call your pediatrician.
Mine recommends warm baths, moving their legs like they're riding a bike, tummy massage, and prune/pear juice or prunes/pears.
Unfortunately, DD has chronic constipation - so she's on Miralax now.
