If your LO has a dairy allergy

How did you figure it out?  DD is SO fussy pretty much all of the time.  She is fed pumped BM (never formula) and I hate to think that my milk is making her fussy, but we do not know what else to do.  She has obvious gas pains and I am not sure what it is that I am eating that could cause this.  I REALLY do not want to think about stopping BFing, but I can not take her being so miserable all the time.  I read that cutting dairy out of your diet can still take 2-3 weeks to reflect in your BM.  I was thinking of giving her soy formula for 2 days to see how she reacted and just pumping/freezing mt BM in the meantime.  I was allergic to milk as a baby, not that it means DD is, but it has me wondering.

Any help is appreciated!

Re: If your LO has a dairy allergy

  • We're still working on diagnosing DD so I can't say for sure that hers is a milk allergy, but her symptoms thus far have been: mucusy poop, green poop, blood in poop, incurable rash. You could start cutting back on your dairy and see if it helps (if you don't want to cut it out completely). Also, I forgot to see how old your LO is before I clicked reply, but my DD seemed miserable all the time up until about 6 weeks or so. It may just be something s/he outgrows. Little newborns a lot of the time just don't know how to handle gas/pooping very well and it takes them some time.

  • Our LO had lime or bright green poop-consistently, lots of gas, screaming from the gas, and sometimes a little blood in the poop.  Pedi said to cut out dairy for 3 days to see what happened....he was better, but yes it took a few weeks to get mustard colored poop and it still ain't "perfect" (LOL).
