Has anyone read the book Skinny Biitch: Bun in the Oven? Just curious to hear what everyone's opinions are on their theories.
I read it, and while I agree with some of their concepts (like avoiding chemicals and preservatives, etc) I find some of them to be quite extreme. I also just watched the Doctors last night and it got me thinking about environmental toxins and such and how everything we do now while pregnant can affect our babies later on. It kind of freaked me out a little!
Does anyone have any other book/website recommendations where I can read up more on these topics?
Re: Skinny Biitch
I have the book and didn't read it cover to cover, but i did read a bulk of it, and while I am a vegetarian and tend to agree with like 90% of what they said, there are small bits here and there I don't agree with. ?Eggs for example are wonderful for pregnant women to eat, especially if you don't eat meat, so I can't get fully on board with their vegan regiment, but all their advice is really good and NONE of the foods that they suggest are bad for you and you and your baby will THRIVE if you are able to eat as wholesome as possible.
?I especially enjoyed their rant on sugar. ?It's hard when you have cravings for certain foods, especially sugary ones, but if you don't have a modicum of discipline when it comes to sugar in your diet, you will eat yourself to an 11 lb. baby, not to mention gestational diabetes. ?You will splurge from time to time during your pregnancy...totally normal, but this is NOT the time for slushies, and blizzards, and cookies...no matter what other people say or do. ?Choose your poison and choose it modestly.

I read it not knowing ahead of time what it was going to be about. Boy was I surprised. I could not finish the book. All the gross details about how farmers treat animals made me cry.
That was what affected me the most. I am not vegetarian but I do buy products that are cruelty free. I feel like I am making a bit of a difference that way, but I will probably start buying more meat from independant farmers so I can be more reassured that they are treated humanely.
