Re: hemorrhoid question.

  • Your OB will just refer you to your PCP. See them or a gastroenterologist. I think that's the doctor I've seen.

  • PCP, who will refer you to specialist. ?I have had them since I was 8, and this pg is making them worse!!! It stinks, I use witch hazel on a cotton ball, it is the same ingredient in tucks, but way cheaper. ?It is safe for preggies, and will give you some relief.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I've never had them before and I will stop at the store and pick up some stuff after work!  Should I call the doctor or try the witchhazel and/or tucks first?

  • Once you have hemorrhoids, it all about management of them. Drinking lots of water, getting lots of fiber, or using a stool softener if you need that. I had a really bad case of it last summer and one became thrombosed (pray to God you never get that). They are really painful and there's nothing to do for them but wait for them to go back in.

So still go to your doctor. But all they will really tell you is what the ladies here can tell you. Tucks pads or just plain witch hazel are great for the pain. Sitz baths are also good pain relievers. Oh, and don't use regular tp anymore. I have switched over to using wipes because it's gentler on my tushie.

The only thing differently a doctor would do for you is suggest getting rid of them, which I hear can be very painful in itself. So they don't usually recommend that. From here on out, it's just a matter of managing the pain and preventing future flare-ups with diet and water.
