Parenting after a Loss

BF moms

At what point did your lo sttn? I will be going back to work when my dd is 10 weeks and I am wondering if that is close to the time??

Re: BF moms

  • I went back to work at 8wk and DS was still getting up 1-2x/night. DS is 9mo now and we are just now getting him to cut out the last night feeding and STTN within the last week. We tried upping his solids throughout the day and giving him cereal or another solid right before bed and he'd still wake up. He hates the bottle though and started refusing it during the day at the sitters so his milk intake there is down to about 12oz so he was doing a lot of reverse cycling and eating at night with me. I think we are the exception to the rule though.

  • Depends on how you define STTN.  If you use the 6 hour book definition, then DD was STTN regularly around 4 months.  If you use the not-having-to-wake-up definition, DD still gets up 1 time.  It just depends on the baby though.  GL!
  • Well, STTN is defined as sleeping 5-6 hours in one stretch. ?DS started doing that around 9-10 weeks for awhile, but he would go to bed around 7 or 8 and be up nursing at 2am, 4am, 6am.

After awhile he dropped that 2am feeding. ?He still wakes up around 4am to nurse and goes back to sleep until 6am when he is up for the day.

  • Umm... a couple weeks ago?  Sorry.  It was a long road of cutting down on nursing time, a little Ferber, and time.  But, not every baby is the same so there's hope for you!  :)
  • I don't think he's even close to STTN. He wakes up at 11, 2, 4, & 5 or 6. He's than up for the day btw 6:30 and 7:30.

I go back to work in two weeks and am not expecting him to be STTN by then. But we co-sleep and he doesn't cry at night, just fusses, so I can get back to sleep easily and feel refreshed in the morning.

  • I should say that she will go 4 to 5 hrs the first stretch and then 3 hrs. After that she is up for the day! So I am not complaining because I know it could be worse!

We're in the same boat - she sleeps about 4ish hours for the first stretch and then 3 after that.  And then she has a really long nap in the morning, another 4 hours.

But if I can get her to nurse both breasts after the 4 hour sleep, I can get another 4 hours out of her.  Its the balancing of waking her up enough to nurse the 2nd side and not waking her up too much to think it's time to get up and play.

My mom and sister both told me that their babies started sleeping longer stretches at 8 weeks and I'm really hoping that sleep pattern is genetic!!

  • Sorry to break it to you, but my guy is still not STTN.  It really varies, though!
