2nd Trimester

My friend just bought me a carseat

She found it at her MILs garage sale.  Apparently MILs bf's daughter has a 18 month old and was selling some baby stuff.  It was only $10.  I am one of the people who want all new things, but I told my mom she could use it in her car when we are in town.

I haven't seen it yet, but it's a Graco and my mom said it is spotless.  I know it's not very old because the little girl is only 18 months, but how can I find out if it has been recalled or something?  Will there be a serial number on it somewhere?

Thanks!

  • Yes, they usually have an ID/SN. Graco website should show you how to check for it.

  • Yes, there should be some sort of serial/ID number on the bottom of it. We had to look ours up when my SIL handed her carseat down...mainly for the year it expired.
  • I bought a used graco - there is an expiration date stamped on the bottom. Also, I downloaded all the manuals from their website and I think you can find out how old it is by its serial number there.

  • You also need to find out if it has ever been in a car accident.

  • Thanks ladies!  It was very sweet of her to buy us the carseat, but I knew she hadn't looked it up to make sure it was alright.  I will see it this weekend and it check it out.

  • Even if it looks ok visually, it may not be safe.  You don't know if its been in an accident, you don't know how its been stored (in an attic and the plastic could weaken due to heat) etc.

    I would not use it.

  • it was a nice gesture
