Probable flameworthy q about poop

what is the difference between diarrhea and normal 3mo poop?  L's poop has been diarrhea-like since the day he was born.  He is now sick, and I am reading the posts about pedialyte, etc, and I am now trying to figure out if he has diarrhea.  Before I sound too pathetic, I started rice cereal recently and he is now pooping more and it is more runny.  So, now struggling to determine what is normal vs. sick.

Re: Probable flameworthy q about poop

  • Flameworthy?  Just real life, I'd say : ).  Diarrhea tends to have mucous and a foul odor.  I've also found it to be much, much thinner (almost watery) in comparison to loose stools.  Also, when  my kids get diarrhea, they tend to act sick as well.  Sleeping more, fever, sometimes vomiting.

  • From what my doc told me, in babies diarrhea is not about the consistency of poop, but rather about its frequency. So, runny is OK, unless there's been a sudden change.
