Hello-
First off, I am not in the 2nd tri but figured some of you may be able to answer this. I am 39, 2nd IVF, 2 miscarriages and considering CVS due to my age, etc.
Did any of you have the procedure done? We are getting an NT scan on Friday and then we are deciding but I feel like I can't wait till an amnio at 16-18 weeks. They can do the CVS at 12 weeks but it carries a slightly higher risk of miscarriage.
Just wanted to ask if anyone had the CVS.
TIA
Re: Did any of you ladies do CVS?
Oh I am so sorry about your losses! I hate to hear it...
To answer your question, No, I did not do CVS. A lot of people I know do have it done but I am such a worrier that I really did not want to have to wait on results & it wouldn't have mattered to me either way what the results were. I also asked my Dr. & she said she did not see why I would need to get it done. I would talk to your Dr. whenever you conceive & see what they recommend.... That should help w/ your decision.
same thing
CVS tests are actually extremely accurate. it's the NT scan without the blood work that can come back with high markers, not high positives.
i chose not to get it done for the miscarriage risk and because my particular test results would've taken 7-8 weeks to come back. if i were you I'd have it done for peace of mind, but definitely talk it over with your Dr and see what s/he recommends. GL to you!

I'm 40, and had the CVS at 11 1/2 weeks. We just wanted a definitive answer. I used to work in an amnio lab, so I understand that many anomolies would never show up on an NT scan or with the quad screen. The miscarriage rates for my specialist are the same for CVS and amnio.
They did an NT scan right before the procedure since the baby was in perfect position, and it was 100% normal, as was my AFP later on. (The CVS can't test for spina bifida like an amnio, so I still needed a blood test at 16 weeks, big deal!) However, during my 20 week ultrasound, they noticed an echogenic focus on the baby's heart. This can either be perfectly normal and resolve - or could be a soft marker for a chromosomal anomaly. It was a huge relief to know that I was in the first group. I can't imagine how painful it is to find out bad news after you've been feeling the baby move for a few weeks.
Congrats on your precious pregnancy!
