Babies: 0 - 3 Months

do you call your LO "the baby" or by name??

we had good friends of ours over the other night with their 2yr old daughter.  Not once did they call her by her name.  All night it was "get the baby her sippy cup" "the baby needs to be changed".  the poor girls isn't going to know she has a name!

I always call Parker by his name, just curious if my friends are freaks.

We always call DS by his name, but when my sister was born, and up until she was almost 2, she was always "Baby" - "Is Baby hungry?", etc.  It used to drive me nuts, and I said the same thing you - that she was never going to learn her name.  Luckily, they stopped calling her Baby after awhile.

  • We call her by her name or nick name.
  • We almost exclusively call our LO Bean.  DS and DH have the same name so that's probably why we call him Bean so much.  We wanted to avoid having both of them named Mac, but we were also trying to find a name for DS that we liked as much as Mac.  We couldn't come up with a name we agreed on so here we are.

We need to call him Mac more though, cuz, you're right, he won't know his own name!

  • I call my LO by his name, but I also call him "little monkey butt".  lol
  • When I am talking about him to someone else I call him by name. If I am talking to DS, I usually call him pumpkin. I have started making myself say his name though because I want him to learn it.
  • We usually call her by name - sometimes I call her "Baby Kate."

  • It still feels awkward to me to call her by name.  I call both her and DH "sweet pea."  I think I'll find it a lot easier once she's got more of a personality and isn't so much of a blob.
  • We definitely call DD by her name all the time. That seems weird that they only called their LO by "baby".

  • I actually call him "the boy" a lot!  But we call him all kinds of names.  baby, his actual name, nicknames.

But I hear you- for one, by 2 years old, they aren't a "baby" anymore and I think it's odd.  Second, when that's ALL they call their child.... I feel it keeps away from their personality, keeps them from being an individual.

I have a friend who always refers to her DD as 'baby sister' to their son.  At first cute, but at over a year old?  It seems like her son should call his sister by her name!

  • i do use cutsie names sometimes, like babycakes or cutie patootie, etc, but normally we cal him by his name Liam, or Li-li.
  • I refer to her by name if I am talking to her or someone who knows her name. If I am speaking to someone who doesn't know her name I will say the baby or my baby or my child or something to that affect.

  • Well we call Delaney by her name along with a billion other nicknames.  She is Pinkerbelle and Pumpy-kin usually.  One of my pet peeves is people who refer to their kids as brother and sister, a la Berenstein Bears.  My BFF's 4 year old calls his little brother "brother" instead of his name because his Mom calls him that.  Go see brother, play with brother, etc.
  • We call DS by just his name or Baby Ben.  In the beginning, I kept calling him "the baby" because that's what I did the whole time I was pregnant and it was hard to break the habit.

  • I love the name we chose for our LO....Colin...but it still feels weird calling him by name for some reason! I do call him Colin, but we also call him "Little Buddy" and "Little Brother" because that's what Nathan has called him since day 1:) So sweet. Oh, and we call him Turtle too....HAHAHA
  • We always call him by his name.  We also call him "cry box" when he's fussy.
