2nd Trimester

Please tell me it gets better!!!

I thought since I'm finally switching over to 2nd tri, this would be a good place to ask... I've been having HORRIBLE m/s since week 6, they put me on Zofran, then 2 weeks ago I ended up in the ER with extreme nausea/vomiting, etc, and they gave me a new script for Reglan, and gave me some IV Zofran and IV fluids while I was there. The Zofran works better than the Reglan, and the Reglan really adds to my dizziness, so I prefer not to take it. The Dr. in the ER told me that the next step is to try Phenergan, which will put me to sleep, and I can't take that because I work night shift at the hospital and it's a patient safety risk. So they said the step after that would be to give me a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter) and give me IV Zofran at home, since they know that works. My question is (if you've lasted this long, thanks), if anyone else has had as bad a problem as me, and if it got any better. So far it's just as bad as it was at 6 weeks. I'm hoping it doesn't last through the whole pregnancy. Please give me hope!

  • I didn't stop vomiting non-stop until I started taking Phenergen, and I still had a spell when it happened again after that.  It did put me to sleep the first couple of times I took it, but at that point I hadn't slept well in well over a month, so it was a welcome change. I had to take it regularly to keep from getting sick, and after the first two days I was able to stay awake and totally alert.  Hopefully you will feel better sooner. I've received three IVs thus far at eight, eleven, and fourteen weeks.  I didn't start feeling like myself until sixteen weeks, and now I'm only getting sick once or twice a week.
  • wow.. never knew it gets that bad! i thank my lucky stars every day for not having m/s. so sorry you have to deal with them! hope they go away and you get to enjoy this pregnancy

  • Thanks for your input!

I just keep reminding myself that I'd rather be pregnant and sick than not pregnant and not sick...

But I still really hope it goes away soon!

  • i didnt have a bad time with phenergan.  It made me mildly sleepy for a couple of days, but I wasnt falling over or anything, and it was worth it after I lost 10 lbs in one week.  I was only sick in the morning after 14 weeks, and I started feeling much better about 2 weeks ago.  (not counting this morning when I had to pull the car over to barf on the way to work), oh...and I have gained back my 10 lbs.  : )

  • I did not have it nearly as bad as you, and I thought it was awful!  I'm so sorry!  I was on Zofran starting at about 8 weeks.  I'm now at 14 1/2 weeks and weaning myself off the Zofran.  I still have mild nausea but I don't know if that is just withdrawal or continued m/s.  Like I said, not as bad as you but for me it did get better right around 12-13 weeks.  I am guessing it will take you a little longer but that it will improve.
