Joint pain... any solutions?

So I've been having joint pain in my hips and buttocks (mostly) since early in this pregnancy (like 10 weeks).  At first I thought it was due to something other than pregnancy but it just keeps getting worse.  I tried exercising it away, but that was the wrong direction.  If I walk too much I am in intense pain.  I thought I was past it, went for a run and could barely walk for days.  It makes exercising pretty much impossible, and I'm convinced is responsible for my larger-than-I'd-like weight gain. Doc basically says deal with it, it's due to hormonal changes causing loose joints.  I don't like this answer.  Has anyone experienced something similar and figured out what to do about it?

  • Google "pelvic girdle pain" - I ended up printing out a bunch of articles and bringing them in to my OB when she said it was probably just SN pain.

  • I just started doing pregnancy yoga. The exercises we did relaxed my hips, which have been hurting off and on. I totally recommend finding a class or trying a dvd.
  • I think prenatal yoga would be a good thing to look into. You can learn gentle stretches and exercises for your body. GL!
  • My doctor told me to pick up a calcium/magnesium supplement at Whole Foods to help with my aches. ?I just bought it today, so we will see if it helps. ?It has a 1000mg calcium and 500mg magnesium per serving (which is 3 pills), but she told me to just take two pills a day, since I am already taking a multivitamin.

Stretching also seemed to set me off more, but I think I overdid it, so I am trying to be gentle. ?I am also getting a prenatal massage on Friday and I am seeing a chiropractor later in the month. ??

  • My doc told me to use heat on my knee joint pain and that really helps. I use a heat pack at night in bed and they have not been hurting nearly as bad. They were swelling and hot at least once a week before. Not sure if this is an area that you would be able to treat easily with heat. That might be kinda hard. But it helped me.

  • Prenatal yoga and prenatal massage.  Just clear it with your doc first, but trust me, a prenatal massage will feel like heaven.  And is much deserved.
