Parenting after a Loss

LO fights eating...what to do?

For the past several weeks, DS has started to fight eating. I know he's hungry, but when I try to feed him he takes a couple of gulps and then cries. Then, he goes crazy shaking his head trying to latch on, cries, takes a few gulps, cries, etc.

I thought maybe he was doing this because he wasn't getting enough milk from me, but we try giving him a bottle and he does the same thing. Is this just a normal thing that we have to get through or should I talk to the pedi? Did anyone else's LO do the same thing? If so, were you able to find anything to just get your LO to calm down and eat?

It's so frustrating and just makes me want to cry. I don't know if there is actually something wrong with him or if he is just fussy.

  • DS does the crazy toss his head trying to latch on thing when he's super hungry, (I think its pretty funny) but in the books I've read they usually say to call your pedi if you lo cries when he is eating, so I would give him a call. I hope you get some answers and your lo settles down

  • not sure but my 4 mo old does this when she is really hungry or when my letdown is too fast and she gets overwhelmed with milk. Same with bottle. Also, when I'm not quite full and she has to suck awhile before my letdown she gets impatient and cries and latches back on, off, cries etc..   Have you tried feeding him before he gets to that "feed me now" crying stage, I find it has helped.  How is it at night when he is really sleepy?

  • Is it happening every feeding? My LO does this at night during her fussy time. It is also during the time that she cluster feeds so she comes on and off several times over the course of about 2-3 hours... crying and sleeping in between. We do a lot of rocking in the dark to calm her down.
  • Thanks ladies. It doesn't happen at every feeding. He does this mostly in the evening. He doesn't ever do it at night, and it is much more rare during the day time. I feel like I really just don't know what is going on.
