Full-term for any baby is 37-42 weeks. Before that is preterm and after that is post-term. The average twin gestation is about 36 and a half weeks, but they're still not full-term developmentally until 37 weeks.
"term" is always 37w - b/c that is when lungs are generally mature enough... but the average for twins to be born is 35-36w.
My OB said that he would not stop labor between 32-36w other than to try and hold it off for 2 days so i could get the steriod shots. He doesn't 100% buy the whole bed rest/meds keeping labor from coming - he has seen it go both ways with women who were given meds and bedrest, etc... He's more concerned with the steriod shots getting a chance to work, which you need 2 days apart.
I've heard 32 and so I told my doctor that and he laughed. He explained lung development is the same in singles as it is in twins. Our goal is 36 wks at earliest and no later than 38 wks. That of course is the goal but heaven knows the cupcakes probably have their own evil plan But according to my doc you want to stay pregnant to that 36 wk goal at least to be safe and minimize medical intervention.
