2nd Trimester

I failed my 3 hr GD test :(

So I guess I have GD :(  I just had a feeling that I would fail my test.  This pregnancy had been a complete 180 from my last one.  When I failed my one hour I knew I had it.  I am still trying to deal with this and trying not to feel like a failure even though I *know* it is not my fault, it is really hard.

Does anyone else have this?  What are the next steps?  Is the diet really hard.  I know I have to go to classes, but I feel like I should start the diet now so I don't do any further damage.  Any food suggestions?  Is it just no sugar at all?  I am clueless.

  • sorry to hear that,  If the diet is going to be the same a normal diabetes you will need to count carbs 15g is one carb serving eg. 1/3 cup pasta is one serving.  I don't know what type of meds they will put you on.  But for now you could do your best to stay away from sweets  and reduce your carbs   also being active helps bring your blood sugars down.

I babysit a girl with diabetes that is how I know this.  Don't be totally stressed out that you will never be able to have carbs during your pregnancy because chances are they will dose your meds with about how many carbs you eat at each meal.  I'm sure if you go on the american diabetes webpage it will give you a list of foods that have carbs  what amount of that food is one carbs serving.

    good luck

  • I had it with both my pregnancies.

The diet isn't so bad and you eat  healthier, which is a good thing.

The bad thing is you watch the clock to test you blood sugar, you have to test usually 4 times a day.

there's a lot of support on the high risk board, come join us.

  • I failed my 1hr and took my 3 hour last Thursday and I have a feeling that I may have failed as well.  I won't know until later today the results of my 3 hour.  I do know that for the most part, my diet habits will definitely need to change.  You will have to cut out most of your sugar and be cautious about fruit and your carb/starch intake.  My father, stepson and aunt are all diabetics, so I've asked them about their dietary restrictions.
