DH and his co-worker are going there for a conference in 2 weeks. Any suggestions on things to see/do while they are there? They will be there for a week, and their conference is over at 2:00 each day, so they'll have lots of down time.
Do you know where they are staying? ?You want the rundown of touristy things, I'm sure - (no malice, I play tourist here ALL the time)
Am assuming they're staying in downtown or FQ area - my job is to plan conferences for CPAs in Louisiana, and that's where we hold all of our New Orleans conferences!
Beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde on S. Peters
Charbroiled oysters at Drago's on Poydras and Convention Center (first floor of the Hilton)
Harrah's is on Poydras/Convention Center/Canal (it's in a bend in the river, so the 3 streets meet up in a triangle)
Hurricane's at Pat O's on Bourbon
Hand Grenades from Tropical Isle on Bourbon
They can go on a Katrina tour, but I don't suggest it. ?It's pretty depressing.
WWII museum is on Magazine and Andrew Higgins (2 blocks off of Lee Circle)
There is a group that does a breakdance show for free (well, for tips) on S.Peters/Decatur across from Jackson Square and next to Cafe du Monde at around 3:00 or 3:30 every afternoon. ?It's amusing, AND they use the proceeds for an after school program for inner city kids to learn breakdancing instead of being out on the street. ?They wear bright green.?
There's a karaoke bar on Bourbon called The Cat's Meow. ?It's pretty amazing. ?If they'll be there on Thursday nights, that's when it starts getting good for the weekend.?
?If they want a food experience, any of the Brennan's Restaurants are good. ?Palace Cafe on Canal is my favorite. ?If they go there, they HAVE to get the bread pudding - and if they like turtle soup, it's by far the best in the city. ?Other good restaurants (going to get pricey, though) are Muriel's, Galatoire's, Restaurant August, Grand Isle, Cafe Giovanni's, and any of the John Besch restaurants. ?My favorite, and one of the cheapest, is Luke's. ?For cheaper but authentic cajun food (and zydeco music most days) Mulatte's on Convention Center is your place. ?The crabmeat au gratin is great.
That's all that comes to mind at the moment. ?If you were going, too, I've got a ?bunch of suggestions about shopping and the zoo/aquarium/insectarium. ?But I doubt the boys will be doing any of those things.

?If they wants some jazz, they can head out to Frenchman Street and go to the Blue Nile -?https://www.bluenilelive.com/calendar.htm

Thanks so much! I'll pass this along to DH.
I wish I were going with them, but I have my school concert while they're away.
