2nd Trimester

Should I be worried now?

I've had gas pains pretty much all week because of some beans I ate. ?This pain has eventually left. ?The problem is 2 nights ago I started having pain on my left side, back and shooting down my left leg. ?Now my left leg is hurting constantly. ?Should I be worried and call my ob? ?I spoke to a family member who is a doctor and she said it may be that the baby or my uterus is pushing against a nerve and that's what's causing it. If that was the case, going to see the doctor wouldn't do anything. ?I've been elevating my leg etc. but have gotten no relief.

  • I'd call your on-call nurses or doctor and see what they say.

  • That sounds like sciatic pain - very common but very painful in pregnancy. :( Not much that can be done except cold packs and physical therapy can help. Don't be worried, it is normal.

  • I agree with it sounding like sciatic pain. I've had the same issue. I'll have it on both the right and left sides off and on. It's so painful!! I hate sleeping on my left side now because I wake up in horrible hip and leg pain from it! Not fun!
  • call your doctor and try some simple exercises to relieve the pain.

Lay on your back bend your legs and and pull them towards you as tight as you can. ?Another is sit on your knees and lay fowards out streching your arms. ?You need to strech that back that will move the nerve that baby is pinching but don't hurt yourself. ?These always help me pregnant or not. ?Don't be worried but do call your doctor they maybe able to tell you other things. and make sure when you sleep your legs are always bent also and pilates moves that you can do will help. ?I had back pain 2 years because of car accident finally pilates got rid of my back pain but be careful too. ?Maybe get a pilates pre=natal video. ?

  • I agree that it sounds like Sciaticia. I've gotten it for YEARS and during pregnancy it's even worse. Like someone else said, all you can do is put cold packs on your lower back for 15mins at a time (never go longer, bad for baby and you... but take 15min breaks and put it back on) and if you are okay with taking medications take1 tylenol, and lay with a pillow between your legs when your not laying on an icepack. It takes up to 8 hrs sometimes for mine to go completely away but the real bad pain usually goes away in a few hours.

    Good luck.

  • Id call the Ob... but id also put money on it that its your sciatic nerve
  • Ouch, I went through the EXACT same thing, she was laying on the main nerve on that side.  I could barely walk and when I did my leg would give out and I would fall over, it sucked.  It also happened to one of my friends and the same would happen.  It came and went throughout the preg. Good luck.
  • See a massage therapist who is certified in pg massage, they can do wonders in relieving your sciatic pain, if they know what they are doing.
