Trying to Get Pregnant

Clomid questions

so we are ttc for #2. ?We had no problems with ds but after ttc for a while w/o any luck my dr prescribed provera and clomid to me. ?Im not getting AF or ovulating. ?I took provera last month and was really hoping to ovulate on my own. ?Well Im pretty sure I didn't. ?So this month Im going to take the provera again and my dr wants me to take clomid. ?I didn't have any side effects from the provera but Im nervous about the clomid. ?I have a friend who took it and had no side effects. ?But after reading a lot about clomid online and all the side effects Im really nervous. ?How bad is it? ?What kind of side effects did you get? ?How long did they last? ?Did you only have these side effects while you were taking the pills (for 5 days) or did they last longer. ?Ill be taking the clomid during ds birthday party and I don't want to be a monster!!

Re: Clomid questions

  • I strongly suggest that you start charting to confirm Ovulation.

As for the s/e, like anything else, everyone is different.  I've heard lots of stories of mood swings, hot flashes, gas, etc. Other than getting emotional on day 1 of Clomid, I didn't experience any other s/e.  I recommend you take it at night before bed to avoid them as much as possible.

  • Are you charting? How are you pretty sure you didn't ovulate?

s/e for me:  hot flashes/night sweats, headaches.  Last all month long.   Oh yeah, and it thinned my lining to where I couldn't get pg on it at all.

you say you're "pretty sure" you didn't O.   I suggest charting your temps.  It's easy, non-invasive and accurate.

if you do take your clomid, do not take unless your doc does CD3 u/s and bloodwork and follows up with a follie and hormone check (more u/s and b/w) around CD10-12.

It will depend on your doctor and what your cycle is/was as to what day blood work is done.

  • Last month I was on 50mg on CD5-9.  On CD5&6 I had some prety wicked hot flashes.  The rest of the month I didn't feel anyhting from it, but it did make me gain a couple of pounds.  Definitely take it right before you go to bed.  I didn't the first day, and felt totally icky.
