Ugh, this frustrates me so much. So a friend of mine has only been ttc for 1 month. She just stopped taking bcp's last month as well. She went to the doctor when she didn't get her period. The doctor ordered a blood panel that day, and from that determines she is not ovulating and prescribes clomid. WTF???
Meanwhile, I have chart after chart indicating I have not ovulated since I went off the pill in August. I was off the pill for a year prior to that, during which time I only had 1 period. I only went back on the pill because I had a large ovarian cyst that sent me to the ER. My doctor is still running tests before she will make a diagnosis. Sometimes I wish I had a doctor that just handed out Clomid like candy, even though I know that is not the right way to do it.

ahahaah!!
Your friend and that Dr. are off their rockers. And fwiw, you can only be on clomid for a limited amount of time - there are also some s/e's that you wouldn't want (like a thinned lining, which happened to me).
Sorry you're frustrated.

The issue here is that you can't know that you are not ovulating from one blood test. They would check your levels a few times a month for a few cycles first.
If you have a pre-diagnosed fertility problem (like PCOS, or were infertile the first baby), they will start you on meds when you want to TTC.
But one test... just isn't right.
