Advice on baby items...

Hi ladies! Sorry to bother ya all but I have some questions on some items I've been thinking about purchasing before Baby Landon gets here. I'm just curious if I these are worth buying in our opinion. TIA!

- Storage organizer for breast milk (thinking about waiting till bf is well established)

- bottle insulator tote bag

- scratch mittens (dh never heard of these and thinks I'm crazy)

- Grocery cart cover

And is anyone using the Graco sweet peace newborn soothing center?? How do you like it???

I think thats it for now. Thanks!!!

Re: Advice on baby items...

  • - Storage organizer for breast milk (thinking about waiting till bf is well established)- I'd wait on this.  We ended up freezing the bags flat and then organizing them in gallon storage  bags by date in the freezer

    - bottle insulator tote bag- we got one of these free in the diaper bag the hospital gave us.  I love that one!

    - scratch mittens (dh never heard of these and thinks I'm crazy) we just used socks.

    - Grocery cart cover- I'd wait on this too.  He can't use it really until he's sitting anyway.

And is anyone using the Graco sweet peace newborn soothing center?? How do you like it??? My SIL had it for my nephew and he hated it.  She ended up returning it for the Rainforest swing which he loved. (my kids loved the aquarium/rainforest line too!)

  • I would definitely get a bottle tote (we have one from LON that is shaped like a bottle and snaps onto the diaper bag strap or tucks easily into an end pouch.  We've used it a lot.

Scratch mittens-- don't get the Gerber kind.  They shrink so much that even a doll couldn't possibly fit her little hands in them after 1 wash!  Personally, we liked the fold over sleeves that are built into onesies best.  I've also seen moms put baby socks on ther LO's hands bc they stay on better.

We have a cart cover, but haven't used it yet since DD is still in her carseat.  I'm sure we'll get a lot of use out of it once she's sitting on her own. You could probably wait to get one if you are prioritizing.

I don't know anything about the Sweet Peace (although I feel like I remember hearing other nesties say it was just OK).  The cradle swings, however, are fantastic and I would highly recommend getting one of those.  I think FP makes the Little Lamb right now?

    HTH!

  • - Storage organizer for breast milk (thinking about waiting till bf is well established) I don't know what this is exactly but I didn't have anything for it, I just put it in the freezer since each bag says the amount and date

    - bottle insulator tote bag I used the one that came with the medela pump all the time

    - scratch mittens (dh never heard of these and thinks I'm crazy) we never used mittens at all, not once.  She never scratched herself until much later - 6 months or so and by then there was no way she was keeping mittens on.  A lot of people use mittens a lot though so might have been a fluke that we didn't need them

    - Grocery cart cover We have one and use it sometimes, it keeps her a little more stable in the cart and more cushy but I don't use it all the time - not a must have.  I use the bjorn a lot at the store anyway

And is anyone using the Graco sweet peace newborn soothing center?? How do you like it??? Didn't have it

  • Wait on the organizer. I'm glad I didn't buy one. When I do pump, I use a ziploc bag or a tupperware.?

We use the one from the hospital diaper bag. It works great, comes with ice packs & I didn't have to pay for it.

DD never used the mittens. She would scream when I put them on her.

We have never used a cover yet. You can definitely wait for this. Right now she's still in the bjorn when we go shopping. ?

  • I would definitely say yes to the first three items, and maybe wait on the grocery cart cover bc you won't use it for a while.  We use the bottle insulator on a daily basis for to and from daycare, and also have it around for when our parents watch ds just in case they need to go somewhere (and they use it a lot).  We liked the idea of the mittens, but he would pull them off a lot...still worth a shot though.  And an organizer would be awesome.  Every time we go to the store to get one they are out and my milk bags are just scattered in the freezer...very annoying!!
  • Storage Organizer - not necessary but helpful

Bottle Insulator Tote Bag - we bought a special one and we have never used it, my diaper bag has a built in one and my pump also came with one.

Mittens - yes both my babies would scratch themselves otherwise, we also had some outfits w/built in ones that were great.

Cart cover - wait you won't use this for at least 5 months.

  • * Storage organizer - I'm just starting to think aout freezing breast milk now, so I don't have one and I'm going to see if I can make it w/o one.

    * I don't have one of the bottle insulator bag but I think there is one in my pump.  The hospital gave me 2-3 ice packs though.

    * We didn't use the mittens.  DD likes to suck on her hands to sooth so at most we covered one hand at a time with the onsie cuffs.  Most of the time we just left them uncovered.

*I do have the grocery cart cover, I got it as a shower gift.  I haven't taken it out the packaging though.  I use the sling or snap and go stroller for shopping,

    - Storage organizer for breast milk (thinking about waiting till bf is well established) - I didn't need one - just freeze the Lasinoh bags (better than MEDELA - IMO) flat and then put them in gallon ziplocks by date

    - bottle insulator tote bag - We use an insulated lunch bag to take bottles to/from day care but otherwise I don't need one because I'm BFing and she will just nurse when we're out.

    - scratch mittens (dh never heard of these and thinks I'm crazy) - wait until after your showers - because people might buy you a pair.  As far as Avery - She HATED stuff on her hands so we couldn't use them but she never scratched her face either..

    - Grocery cart cover - I LOVE mine - I got it from Kozy Pal - If you decide to buy one, you can use this link Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

We just started using ours about 2 weeks ago but I would feel really grossed out about putting her in a cart without a cover.

And is anyone using the Graco sweet peace newborn soothing center?? How do you like it??? Is that sort a cradle rocker/swing?  We have teh FP cradle swing.  I think that would be just as good and you'd get more use out of it

I think thats it for now. Thanks!!!

  • organizer - I'm not sure I know what this is.  We bought the madela freezing and storage set, and those little bottles fit perfectly in our freezer door.

bottle insulator - My DD doesn't take a bottle, so no advice there.  I think we got a free one from similac (even though we don't feed formula), and one came with my madela pump.

scratch mittens - yes, I would get some.  This is one of the things we ran out to get the first week.

Grocery cart cover - I would wait on this.  Personally, I like to shop with DD in my sling.  It keeps her close so no one can snatch her away.  If you're not a sling person, you will have her in the car seat for probably 6 months or so anyway.

    Didn't use the soothing center.
