like to take pictures and some (a few) have complimented me on my pictures (thank you). but i wanted to show what my pictures really look like BEFORE i process them. and that ANYONE (yes YOU) can make pictures stand out too!

For your before/after did you just adjust the brightness/contrast and sharpen?

Just curious.

I have an XTi and usually shoot with a 50mm f1.4 as well. I tried lightroom though and couldn't get into it...but don't have the time to devote to really learn it. I feel like it's more tailored for someone who is taking a higher volume of pictures and I do not edit most of mine.

I'm assuming you've seen Pioneer Woman's photography site? This is the premise behind it (anyone can make an average picture pop) and it's pretty neat. You can download actions, too.
