DD started getting a runny nose last night. Sometimes while I'm nursing I'll have to take her off and suction her nose clean because it's so congested sounding. She doesn't have a fever or anything. She's been eating and sleeping as normal as usual too. She had a runny nose and sneeze when we brought her home but that was "normal", I guess. Her nose is more runny then that and she's been sneezing more often. Should I call the dr? I tried calling already this morning but I kept getting a machine so I think they're really busy.
Oh and this is my first post, I usually just lurk...So HI! I promise I don't freak out over little things all the time. I just can't remember when you're supposed to call the dr when it comes to runny noses and newborns! ![]()
Re: Runny Nose- Call Dr?
Yes. We called Dr. this morning because DS has had a runny nose for 2 days, been coughing and this morning his voice was "raspy". They had us come in to check him out. And no, we didn't think it was swine flu, just a cold. We were right, DS is getting a cold.
Sounds like you're doing what you should be with the suctioning. If it's just a runny nose it's probably just a viral cold and there's nothing the pedi can do for you anyway, just keep breastfeeding - it's the best possible support you can provide!
When in doubt though call the pedi - it's what they are there for. They'll tell you what to look for to know if you need to come in. Most likely though as long as it's still runny and clear you are okay, but if it gets thick and changes color (like greenish or something) then she might have an infection.
