2nd Trimester

Crib Question

Ladies, I was wondering if you any of you were having the same trouble that I am. I was looking at cribs the other day (reallyjust an excuse to go to a store with air conditioning) and I cannot find more than 1 or 2 cribs that have drop sides.

I am only 5'3 and I need the drop sides so that I wont have to drop my baby into the crib... is anyone else having this problem???

Re: Crib Question

  • Maybe get a really bouncy mattress for your crib?

The one I found this morning has a drop side - it's a convertible crib at BRU. I haven't seen many others though..

  • I just picked out my furniture and while I am not getting a drop side baby's dream makes a cute one and it is rated A.  Solid wood and converts.  Check it out.  Then you can find a local retailer.

  • I'm 5'2" and there's no way I can live without a droprail, esp. with 2 babies. I got ours at JCPenney.

I'm 5'2" and we just ordered our crib, Munire Deco.  I 'tested' it at the store and had no problem pretending to gently lay the baby in the bed when it was at the highest setting.  DH thought I was a lunatic!

Thank you for the article, but it makes me wonder what I would do...

I went to the store and took a teddy bear and used it to test the cribs at their lowest settings and found it impossible to lay the "baby" in the crib. Maybe I will have to set up a pully system or something.. (j/k)

You won't need to have the crib at the lowest setting until the baby is old enough to stand up (unless they're sick).  Then, when you go to get LO out they will be higher and therefore easier for you to get.  While the baby is still little, just use the mattress on the higher settings so that you can reach.

  • From looking at ikea cribs, their height without drop sides is the same as the height of a drop side crib with the side lowered.  So I think you'd be just fine with one of these, even if you're short.  Just look for shorter cribs, there are quite a few out there.
  • I am also 5'2 and had the same concerns about being able to get a baby in and out of a stationary side crib at the lowest mattress setting.  We looked at a bunch at Buy Buy Baby, but it was a problem.  I was also concerned about getting a drop side crib given all of the potential safety issues.  We ended up buying a GULLIVER crib at Ikea.  It was highly rated on Consumer Reports and in Baby Bargains.  When we went to the store to check it out, it was the perfect height for me to reach both mattress settings and I really like it's no frills design. That, and it was SUPER cost effective, allowing us to splurge on other items like a stroller:

    Good luck!

Really?  I was having trouble finding a crib that didn't have a drop side.

What stores are you looking in?  and definitely check online - they usually carry a wider selection
