I know it's early, but MIL and I were talking about DD's the other day. I don't know the answers for us yet, but just want to see what others did/are doing and to potentially get ideas.
1. Did you have/Are you having a party?
2. How many people did/will you invite? Kids, adults, both?
3. Where did you have/are you having it?
4. Anything unique you did/are doing to make it extra-special? Theme?
5. What did you get/are you getting your LO?
6. Anything else to add?
Re: Poll: 1st Birthday (Party)
I'm interested to see people's responses, too. In the meantime, here's what I got:
1. We will have some kind of casual party.
2. Probably just family and a couple friends with babies.
3. At our house I assume.
4. Giving Willem chocolate!
5. A Waldorf doll and a book for his library
6. Nope.
We will be having a party.
We will probably have about 50 people here if I had to guess maybe more and both kids & adults.
We will be having in their actual birthday bc it will be a Saturday.
We will probably do an animal theme bc it is gender neutral or if they are into something then we will go w/that. They will both have their own smash cake and one big cake.
We are thinking about getting one of those huge playsets for the yard.
1. Yes we are
2. about 45, yes kids & adults
3. Probably in our backyard. We were gonna do it at the boardwalk, but decided refrigeration was an issue
4. Not really. Just giving her her own little cupcake to eat & have fun with.
5. A party. Everyone else will probably get so much stuff that we really won't need to.
6. Just invite the people you want there and do what you want. It's about celebrating your baby turning one. Not about stressing. Also have someone else take pics. We're hiring the same woman (student) that did our family portraits for $50 so I don't have to worry about pictures. ?
1. Did you have/Are you having a party? yes, we did.
2. How many people did/will you invite? Kids, adults, both? We had about 15 people. Our families traveled here for the weekend (none live nearby), so it was mostly just family. No kids except for Oliver.
3. Where did you have/are you having it? At home. We had planned on having a barbecue, but the weather didn't cooperate. So we just made a bunch of food.
4. Anything unique you did/are doing to make it extra-special? Theme? No. Nothing special, no theme. Just a birthday party. Having everyone here was the nice part. I made the cake & cupcakes myself. Otherwise it was just a nice, casual family get together.
5. What did you get/are you getting your LO? We got him a baseball game toy, a beanbag chair that looks like a silly monster (from Target, so cute!), a shape sorter, and a few other little things. We didn't want to go crazy because we knew the relatives would.
6. Anything else to add? I guess my advice would be not to get your expectations for the day too high. At that age, you never know what their mood will be, especially with lots of people around. Oliver did great overall, but after opening one toy, could have cared less about opening the others (and by opening, I mean just tearing at the paper). He just wanted to play. My aunt kept handing him a package and he'd take it and just throw it to the side and go back to what he was doing. It was funny though. Same with the cake. Having 15 people watching you when mom puts this funny looking thing in front of you and all the camera flashes go off--a little weird. He took like 2 bites and was like, eh. And no way he was putting that stupid crown on his head! lol. Try to keep some normalcy in the day so they don't completely melt down...like naps and normal eating schedule.
I think the party is more for the family/guests than the kid. I mean, there will be pictures for memories of course, but they don't get it. It's just another day to them. So make it fun for you guys.
1. Yes - 2, one in Atlanta and one in NJ
2. ?The Atlanta one will be family and a few close friends or those with kids. ?The NJ one will be for the people in my mom's group
3. Both will be cookouts since his birthday is in July
4. Not really, he's so young and doesn't really have a "thing" just yet. ?We'll probably have a small smash cake for him to dig into with his hands.
5. I haven't even thought about this yet. ?I'll have to see what he is into by that point.?
1. Yup we will have a party
2. both kids and adults - it is my husband's 30th at the same time - it will be huge but casual, I have a big extended family that comes to everything and we love to entertain, I'm sure people will have stuff to do since it is summer
3. we are having it at our house - bbq and pool
4. i dont think so
5. we aren't getting her anything - she will get so much from everyone
1. Did you have/Are you having a party? yup! We have a lot to celebrate!
2. How many people did/will you invite? Kids, adults, both? inviting 130 (yes i know). cannot cut that list anymore. its insane. HUGE families!
3. Where did you have/are you having it? My grandmothers house. she has a big backyard
4. Anything unique you did/are doing to make it extra-special? Theme? there will be about 40 kids so i hired a face painter/balloon artist & will have a jumper too. The theme is monkies with the colors pink & brown. She will have her own smash cake to destroy! Also we will be asking for any donations for the NICU DD was at as a huge thank you for the amazing staff there
5. What did you get/are you getting your LO? the party. With 130 guests I think she will be ok with gifts!
6. Anything else to add? We are nuts for having such a big party but this will be the one and only huge one. I love throwing parties so this will allow me to get it out of my system. From everything we went thru to get her (m/c, premature delivery, NICU, etc) we feel the need to really celebrate her amazing little life.
