It should be against the law to have 2 colicky babies back to back

I really thought that after being put through the ringer with DS #1 (he was colicky for 8 mos, had milk allergies, didn't sleep, had to sleep on our chest for 6most, etc.) that this baby was going to be the opposite. Well, it seems she is just like her brother and I've been in tears several times already. I know I should be happy she's healthy and all, it's just soooooo stressful and odd that both babies have been like this. Anyone else have this kind of luck?

  • Oh no!!! I'm so sorry!!! ?Just try to remember that it WILL get better. ?I can't imagine. ?Ethan was colicky for 6 months and OMG, I was mental! ?I am so sorry you have to go through that again!!!! (((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))
  • HUGS!  I'm so sorry you have to deal with that!  My good friend's #1 was colicky and she called me all the time in tears.  She lucked out with #2 but I know how frustrating it was for her with just the one.  Hopefully this one will work it out quickly and not take 8 months!  Good luck!

are you dairy free?  how about soy?  (or a hypo formula).  Both of mine are 'colicky' if I eat dairy or soy.

    It'll get better!

  • Man, that stinks, I can't imagine. Are you nursing? Could she maybe be reacting to something in your diet?

  • yep, mine were the same way too...I was so hoping for no colic/reflux this time, but nope.  That being said, it is getting much better with DS....a lot earlier than it did with DD.  We didnt get out of that horrid reflux/colic stage with her until she was almost 6 months.  DS started doing SO MUCH better at 3 months...thank goodness.  He is not sleeping through the night or anything like that, but I don't expect that for a while.  Heck, my 2.5 year old still doesnt sttn most nights! lol

  • I'm nursing and supplimenting. I'm cutting out all dairy today to see if that"s it
  • So sorry, that really sucks. I got lucky, #2 was a lot better, but I medicated him and switched his formula a lot sooner than with DD. What formula are you supplementing with? Is #2 refluxy? DS was a totally different baby on Zantac.

    GL!!

  • Yes! Unfortunately from what I've read a lot of allergy/reflux type issues can be hereditary and since these impact sleep and temperament so much it is actually quite common to end up with two.  I told my DH I plan to torture them as teenagers waking them at 6am every morning and randomly yelling at them (j/k - maybe).  To top it off both of my guys are HUGE (DS #2 has been 27lbs since 10months or so) thus physically exhausting as well.  I try to take lots of breaks, have PT help to the extent we can afford it, and pass them off to DH as much as possible.  I've done sleep training with both of mine and I would do it again any day since I NEED sleep to deal with the work that comes with these two.  I think mine are finally at the end of this stage and I know we won't be having anymore.  Everyday I rejoice in getting through and knowing I'll never have to be in this place again.  I figure karma has to balance it out for us when they are older, right?  Off to silently pray...

I almost couldnt open this post, as my dd was colicky...Shes now almost 3 and I still remb like it was yesterday...Its awful, I feel for you.  You prob are already aware but the Happiest Baby on the block was a great help ...(video not book)...I bet it wont last as long....+ you are a strong woman, you have done it before and can handle it again.  Good luck..
  • that is terrible! we had one colicky baby...and it almost did us in!  he had milk allergies, and we tried every formula under the sun. finally, we switched to nutramigen, and we got some relief. it just has to run its course until their digestive systems develop. try some alimentum or nutramigen and see if it helps. try to hang in there.....colicky babies make great toddlers!
