so i have been watching/googling the flu swine in mexico, i am going to puerto vallarta on may 13-20th. i dont know if i should still go or be worried. or what precautions to take, most of the virus is in mexico city which is not near where we are going, any advice??
Re: anyone heard about flu swine in mexico?
I love Mexico so I am shocked to say I think I wouldnt go.
But the risk, even low, is a really, really bad one.
1. If you haven't heard of it you've been living under a rock.
2. Ask your doc. If it was me, I don't think I'd go, but you'll probably be fine. Chances are, it's going to get worse here before it gets better anyway, so I'm not sure there's really any difference.
I believe it has been told that people should not go to Mexico unless they "have" to. Someone posted yesterday that it was reported that pregnant women should avoid trips there, and I know many doctors are trumping vacation plans for their patients.
Essentially it is your choice.
She is right. They are no longer saying it is just within Mexico City. There have been cases in Cancun which is the major area to go to or fly into when going to the resorts in Mexico.
Here is where you could stay on top of the information.
https://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentSwineFluMexico.aspxBut I would definitely talk to your dr. It is pretty serious down there as of right now and it is not just contained to mexico city. The baja peninsula has people affected as well as other parts of Mexico. The kids that got sick in NYC went to Cancun over spring break.
