or any other surname in your family that isn't jones/ smith/ etc.
i'm looking for boy mn options (hate first names as middle names) and my mother's maiden name is shannon and our last name starts with S so i don't want to use that.
any names would be appreciated, thanks!
note: i've looked back through almost all the names in my family since i was 10 years old, so i'm just looking for some other options.
Re: poll: your maiden name
My grandma's maiden name is Ross. It's Irish and I've always liked it. All of her extended family (which is huge) is in Oklahoma City.
Edit: Here are a few more last names in my family...Anderson, Carlson, Timm, Williams, Bryrd, Hill, Phillips, Blair,?Magnuson, Heller, Siering, Hottinger, Mejer, Harter, Ormond
We're using MIL's maiden name for our little boy ~ Owen
My maiden name is Darnell. I've heard it used as a first name before (also on My Name is Earl lol), but it's NMS. My mother's maiden is Cox - def not to be used as a first name! lol
Campbell. I've thought about using it for either a boy or girl.
my maiden name is so not doable, but others that could work:
Miller, Madden, Davis, Baron.. err Google it!
If we ever have a boy, we might use my maiden name as a mn. It's Wills and I think it works well as a given name (not Willis!!).
Other family options I have are Jacobe (jah-coe-bee) and Nelson.
My grandmother's maiden name was Lewandowski, so I've also considered Lewis or a variant thereof.
Can you go further up your family tree to find good last names to use?
I think it's a bit odd to just use a random last name for your child's middle name.
another issue is so many in my family end in S and that won't work with our last name. williamson and crawford are the only two we have agreed upon so far. we planned on using mcconnell, MILs maiden name for a girl, but we're thinking of using thomas (her father's fn) for a girl's mn so i don't want it to be all about her side of the family, either.
This. What are your grandmothers' maiden names? Etc.
I'm so jealous of everyone with such normal maiden names!
My maiden name is Spoelstra. You can use that if you want. My mom, MIL, and grandma all have very ethnic, weird maiden names, too.
Some random names I think sound like surnames:
Cooper, Sawyer, Tucker, Gilmore (hehe - I'm watching Gilmore Girls), Harrison. Ok, I'm out. GL!
I'll name them all.
Young, Key, Fipps, Moseley, Robinson, Willis, Largent, Culver, Blankenchip, Lounsbery, Lunt, Bloom.
Me too...mine was Frechette, I can't get away with that. The only useable one in my family is Roy.

My maiden name is Hsin (pronounced Shin) and we actually used a different spelling of it for DS's middle name (Xin). I wouldn't use it as a first name though.
My maiden name isn't one that would make a great first name, but here are a few of my family names that I like for a first or middle name:
Harper
Allen
Parker
Sorry--still trying to understand--so, due to a lack of inspiration amongst your own family names, you've decided instead to use someone else's (albeit sounding as though it ought to be your own)...?
Not trying to be snarky, just curious really.
for example, i like the name davis, it's not a name in my family but i still plan on using it for my child. i do have several surnames from my and dh's families that i plan to use but am looking for a few more to consider. i don't plan on pretending it is a name in my family if it isn't, didn't mean to make it sound like that.

If you get the Baby Name Wizard book, it has a whole section filled with surnames that can be used as names.
