2nd Trimester

gallbladder post update

i called the doc office, and they are going to get it to the doc right away. then sending me for an ultrasound of the gallbladder and one to check on baby (to see how the baby is holding up with it).   since i have had attacks almost everynight they are talking about surgery before the baby is born if not a c section and take it out the same time.

after telling the nurse how it felt she said it sounds just like her attacks. and pushing it through to the doc fast.   i shall know more soon.

thanks ladies for you advice down below.

Re: gallbladder post update

  • good luck!
  • Good Luck.  Just be careful if you decide to take it out while pregnant.  Not trying to scare you but I had terrible complications which had I been pregnant it would have had not went well.  I know they say it's a simple procedure but there are risks.  Over all it took me over a year to recover from all that took place following my surgery.  I would have never removed it had I known.

  • we have a major family history of GB problems, and they thought that mine was acting up early in second tri. I ended up being okay, but I was begging them to take it out. They normally do the procedure laproscopicly, but when you are pg, they have to do it normally. I was told the surgeon will only do it if you are in the second tri, but someone else told me that they will in third tri also.

    Good Luck!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Uhg...that totally stinks.  I had this while pregnant with my dd and had mine out when she was two months old.  We debated on doing surgery while pregnant but decided to wait and I was able to get through the pregnancy.  Mine actually got better the further along I was.  Do what you feel is best for you and baby. My attacks consisted of agony for hours, vomiting and diarhea, I could not have dealt with that every night.  But what did help with the pain was two heating pads one on my back and one on my rib cage in the front.
  • I was diagnosed with Gallbladder disease at 14 weeks and one surgeon wanted to do surgery right away. It made me very uncomfortable. I got a second opinion and that surgeon said to control it with diet. If it got REALLY bad then I would need surgery. The diet has worked so far. I generally feel great - although I do slip up and get sick every now and the.

Only you know what is right for you, but try a low/no fat vegetarian diet for a few weeks. It took me about 2-3 weeks to really start feeling better and it was worth it!

I monitor my blood work every 3-4 weeks to check on my white blood cell count and my liver function. So far, so good. Let me know if you have any questions. This was a hard decision for me to make - I imagine it is for you too.
