Help w/ new baby's name.

We don't know yet if its a boy or girl, but I am having a c-section in 3 weeks and am still unsure about our girl's name.  My grandfather passed away about a month ago and his name was Isadore (Izzy) and I want to name the baby after him.  DH and I love the name Izzie for a girl, but aren't in love with Isabelle.  Isabella is cute, but DH doesn't like it and it doesn't go well with our middle name (Sara) or our last name, which has a lot of "L's."  I posted this on the Baby Name board a few months ago (before he passed away) and got bombarded w/ replies that said Izzie won't look good on a resume later in her life.  What do you guys think?

  • What about Elizabeth, Izzy could be a nickname for that.  I agree Izzy wouldn't look real professional, but people do it and have for years.  If you only like Izzy go with that.

  • How about Elizabeth? You could use Izzy as a nickname for that, plus, it has many other nicknames that you/she can use when she is an adult. I think it sounds beautiful with Sara and it's classic enough to work with any last name.

  • Isadora? It's not cute and trendy but it's a real name, and very close to your grandfather's name.

ETA: Plus, your child will grow up with kids named Mackaylla and Brandylynn and stupid names like that - what looks good on a resume now is not necessarily what the "norm" is going to be when she grows up! Izzie might be a refreshing change! LOL

She's crafty - and she's just my type.
  • I say who cares about a freakin' resume! LOL. DH and I are both entrepreneurs, so what if your DD starts her own company? Izzie would be catchy, cute, unique and something that you and your husband both loved. Go with your intuition and you can't go wrong! And if she does end up submitting resumes, her name would make her memorable! Anyways, I like it and say go for it, but then again, I could care less about being "normal". Stick out tongue

  • I'm not a huge fan of Izzie as a given name, but it's not that bad.  What about Isadora, Isis, or Elizabeth?

  • Elizabeth or Isadora are both great options!

  • My grandmother's name was Sylvia and her nn was Izzy.  I really think Izzy / Izzie is very cute.
