Toddler with swollen lymph node at neck?

My 2 year old has a very swollen, hard lymph node around his jaw line.  We noticed it on Friday, and I think it got worse over the weekend.  We took him to the ped on Friday and they said it was likely due to some type of injury or infection that he had and was probably no big deal, but it bothers me that I don't know the underlying cause.  He hasn't been sick lately, and I don't see that he has any type of infetion anywhere.  Has anyone else had this happen?

Thanks

  • my toddler doesn't have one, but I do!  I've had it there most of my life and don't remember when it came or how.  I can roll it around with my fingers but it is definitely on my jaw line.  Hasn't caused me any problems.

  • DS had a swollen lymph node in his groin before.  I was putting diaper cream on him and felt it.  It did go away on it's own and it can be cause by an injury or illness.  Even if he's not sick, he could have been exposed to something that his body fought off.  If it's still not better in a week or he starts to complain, then I'd take him to the dr.  They'd probably give him some antibiotics to see if that took care of it.

  • DS has had one since August. The Dr said not to worry about it unless more lymph nodes start to swell. It has been the only one, so I don't even think about it any more. He said that if I really wanted, he could do some blood tests to rule out the scary stuff, but I didn't want to put DS through that for something that is probably nothing.
