WDYT? Re: hot weather & dehydration

I took Sophie to a family baby shower today and it was soo hot in the house.  I had her dressed in shorts & sleeveless top, we fed her a 6 oz bottle while we were there.  She had 3 SOAKING wet diapers in the 4 hours we were there.  The aunt mentioned to me to watch for dehydration b/c we were starting to think her diapers were wet from sweating rather than pee.  I am glad she had wet diapers, but now I'm wondering if I should pack her an extra bottle of juice/water mix for our MOD walk tomm. since its going to be just as hot out as today was.  WDYT?  Thanks.

Re: WDYT? Re: hot weather & dehydration

  • I just posted on our blog about how Marino was super cranky today b/c of the heat https://takingontheworldwithourboy.blogspot.com/

I would think the wet diapers are a good thing...did they smell like urine? Anyway, my pedi told me I could give Marino 3 oz of water during the walk b/c of the heat but not more than that (too much water is not safe at this age). I got some good suggestions the other day in my post about "Mamas Who Have Already Been Through a Summer with DC."

  • Thanks!  Sorry, I didn't read your post from yesterday otherwise I would would have known all that...HEHE.  I already bought sunscreen that the Pedi. recommended and she has a good sunhat. (Sunglasses too,but mostly for cuteness, I don't know if they *really* help)  I am bringing a jar of food to feed her while we are there anyway plus a bottle of milk, but I will def. pack an extra bottle of liquids.  I was going to put her in a think long sleeve shirt b/c I didn't want her to be too exposed to the sun.  But all the pictures I've seen, the kids are wearing short sleeves and legs exposed. Huh? I don't want her to be too hot, nor do I want her to get sunburned.  UGH, crap I will just pack a bunch of things to change her into I guess.

  • I called our pedi and told her that we are doing the walk today and I was concerned about him getting dehydrated. She said to mix 1 ounce of juice with 3 ounces of water and give him that. She also said to keep him in the shade as much as possible.
