Another question I should know the answer to but I don't.

When did you or do you plan to remove the gate from the bottom of the stairs? ?Do you let your DC go up and down as they please? ?Also, if you have a gate at the kitchen when did you take that down. ?Right now we have a gate at his bedroom door, one at the bottom of the stairs (which are hardwood BTW) and one at the kitchen door. ?Sometimes, I feel bad that his space is limited to our foyer, dining room and living room and sun room.

We took them down when DD was 2.2.  We still have a few glorious gate-free months until we need to put them backup for #3.

DD is 25 months and we still have it up with no plans to take it down anytime soon.  At this point, she doesn't play in her room by herself so there's no reason for her to go up there without one of us.

I think we took the gate down at the bottom of the stairs at 2yrs or a bit before. We took the gate down at the top last week. Although we didn't use it for Jack (30m). We used it for our dog. We don't use any other gates. We used to close off the kitchen and dining rooms when Jack was little little, but he's had free reign since he was walking at 11m.
