In tears, DH just left for the week

So DH just left for Germany and will not be back until Friday.  He is going for work.  I'll be by myself with DS for the week.  I am so not good at this type of thing.  Garrett keeps on saying "mommy crying, mommy sad, I'm sorry mommy."  And he knows that daddy went to work but he has no idea that he will not be back for almost a week.  DH has never been away like this from him, so it should be interesting, especially at bed time tonight since he has been insisting that daddy put him to bed lately.  Wish me luck ladies, I'm sure you will see quite a bit more of me over this week......

Re: In tears, DH just left for the week

  • Remember to be patient w/ds at bedtime... even on Thursday night when its been a horrible week... Its harder on then them then us... Dh travels a lot... He used to put her to bed every night and when he is home he still does but its rough for her when hes gone... makes for stressful night for mommy!!!!  Good luck!!! I hope he adjusts well!!

  • Good luck! ?DH started traveling for work right after #2 was born. ?It was tough at first, but eventually we got into a routine and were ok when he left.

  • I'm the same way! I get such bad separation anxiety. The way I get through it is just to stay busy. I buy myself a book or two that I've really wanted to read. I also invite people over and plan playgroups. I've found that that is the fastest way to make the time go by. Good luck and let me know if you need to talk.
  • DH travels a fair amount for work, so we just get used to being the two of us.  The last trip was nearly 2 weeks!

Just plan fun outings for the two of you to do, in addition to your normal routine, to keep everyone sane.

  • My son is the same way when my dh is home about the bedtime routine, but you would be suprised once they are not here how the bedtime routine goes. I thought it would be torture too, but my son has been easier to get to bed and he goes much earlier than when both of us are here. My son pretty much wanted my dh toward the end of my pg because he said I was too big for his bed (queen size) to lay with him. Good luck to you this week.

  • I dread it too, but it usually works out just fine.  We get into our own groove, yk.  I try to make plans and keep busy, which helps a lot.  Do you have any family nearby?  I like to go to my parents for dinner, I know I don't have to worry about the witching hour and there's an extra set of hands to help out.  Sometimes I have them come over, too.  Or I meet a friend out or bring take out home.  I just need something to look forward to.  GL!
  • While I do miss DH when he travels, I have to say that I also love the "me" time I get from it.

I go over to VS and buy some new lingerie, body butter and fragrance. Then, when he calls, I tell him that I've got a nice "surprise" for him when he gets home :)

  • No close friends or family at all down here, which is what makes it harder.  It really is just DS and I for the week.  The witching hour is what scares me the most since DH usually gets home from work around dinner and then we spend the evening as a family.  DS expects it, so that part should be interesting. Hopefully he will shock me and do amazing!  Thanks for all of the kind words ladies!

  • We don't have any family around either.  DH doesn't travel a ton for work, but we did spend about 9 months of him commuting to DC and only being home on the weekends.  It was hard, but I take advantage of the time to eat stuff DH wouldn't eat, watch whatever I want on TV, not feel any obligation to have family dinners on the table...etc.  A week will go by fast, I promise!!
