Fussy baby tricks?

My almost 5 month old is the fussiest baby ever.  She will NOT nap during the day.  At most, I get a 15 min cat nap.  She sleeps at night though, so I can't complain too much.

During the day she won't let me put her down.  I also have an almost 2.5 year old, so this is not working out very well for me.  I'm in the process of weaning, which I thought would help (the doc told me that the formula should make her fuller so she'd nap during the day), but that doesn't seem to be helping at all.  She doesn't like her swing (unless she's sleeping already), and nothing else seems to please her.  I'm tired of wearing her because it's starting to hurt my back.

Is there anything else I'm missing?  Anyone else have a super fussy kid and have any tricks I could try?

Oh, she also hates the carseat, so drives are out.

DS likes going for rides in the carseat outside.  If it's a nice day you could try the swing outside while you garden with Ash or something.  The fresh air might work?

ETA: carseat = stroller.  I'm braindead.  Maddie is sick and screaming.

Your "location" and sig are awesome, btw.

Also, do ever get error 99 on your canon?

  • Ahhh... I remember those days (and PRAY that we dont' have them with #2!!).  White noise worked somewhat well for us.  that and the fan on the microwave (this was at the height of his colicky stage).

Will she do the bouncy seat?  We put DS in the Jumperoo and Exersaucer pretty early... with blankets rolled up around him b/c it was one of the ONLY ways we could put him down adn he woudl not scream.  He wanted to be upright so taht helped a little bit.  Walks worked for us too (sometimes... I say worked b/c it was just nice to not have to hold him and have some peace while we walked).

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.  I know we had a SLEW of tricks... just having mommy mush brain at the moment.  If I was DESPERATE I would put him in his bouncy seat and turn on Baby Einstein.  Not the best thing, I know, but it allowed me to make dinner now and then :)

  • Haha!  Thanks-I'll have to try the outside thing once the weather is better.

Nope-I have yet to get any error messages on it.

Fu(k.  I got a lemon then.  It is currently in VA for repair.

I thought it was nice up there right now?  FIL said so :)

my baby doesn't nap, either.  she's not so fussy though.  unless I eat one of the 872 things she's allergic to.

IDK if you want to wean anyway but I think it's probably hard to deal with a fussy baby w/o nursing.  I guess see how it goes.  If you're on the fence about weaning that might be something to consider.

My main reason for weaning is because I've had mastitis twice now, and my supply really took a hit because of it.  I've had a lot of bf issues.  And, I am hoping DH will be able to help more if I bottle feed.  Pumping isn't working for me.

  • I have heard that when you're weaning, the child craves more contact (i.e. being held, hugged, loved on, etc.) so maybe that is why she is being a bit difficult. Whenever Aubrey was really fussy, I would just go outside and that seemed to make her happy. I guess just the change of atmosphere helped.

  • I have so far lucked out with baby #3 and she's pretty good (her sister was a nightmare), but when she is really fussy I put her in the real tub with just a few inches of nice warm water. aka a bath :) It has so far always calmed her right down.
