play more with older children then someone their own age? DS seems very timid around other children his age and kindof stand off-ish,  but when it comes to kids say 5 or older he is all over them and has a blast.

He is an extreme people person (gets that from dh). He will play with anyone that will play with him..lol. (no matter what age)

My DD LOVES kids who are 4-6 years older. Especially boys.

Is he very verbal? ?I find that Ethan gets pretty frustrated playing w/ younger kids or kids his age unless their verbal skills are at least as good as his---he needs to be able to communicate to play now, so he's really happy playing w/ older kids. ?

Maybe that's why. He is been very verbal and has been since about 18 months. He is now almost 2.5 and is speakig 5-6 word sentences. I've never thought about that.

I've noticed this. My DD always seems to gravitate toward girls around 5 or so. It's funny, because these same girls gravitate toward DS because they all love what a tiny baby he is.
